Debate Hub Mooting

This January join us for a legal themed debating competition- instead of regular motions we will have three rounds of legal cases and legal debates.

Sign Up Now!

Our debating competitions are designed, first and foremost, to be exciting, enjoyable evenings for everyone involved. You do not have to be an aspiring lawyer to take part in the mooting themed competitions, but an interest in law or legal questions will be helpful.

  The format

  • Teams of three speakers all do three rounds.
  • In each debate, every speaker gives one speech lasting no more than five minutes.
  • There are two teams in every debate: the prosecution and the defense.
  • Students are given the case 15 minutes in advance, though we will release the laws that will be pertinent in advance, to allow for some research.
  • The competition is divided into two age brackets: Years 7 to 9 and Years 10+
  • Rounds are power paired: teams compete against teams on the same number of wins as them.
  • We look for strong arguments, with good explanation and reasoning, delivered in a compelling way.
  • Judges will be a mix of legal professionals, university debaters and university law students.
  • The location is South Hampstead High School, 3 Maresfield Gardens, London, NW3 5SS
  • £55 per team for independent schools, free for state schools.

I practiced the law, I practically perfected it. I’ve seen injustice in the world and I’ve corrected it.
