Our competitions are designed, first and foremost, to be exciting, enjoyable evenings for everyone involved. There is always a wide spectrum of ability and complete beginners are always welcome.
What each participant will do:
-
- Deliver a 5 minute pre-prepared speech then answer questions on it to a small audience of about a dozen people.
- Introduce and ask questions of another speaker. (We call this role the ‘compere.’)
- They will have to give the same speech a second time if they reach the final, in front of the entire competition.
- Ask questions as an audience member in both rounds and vote on the winner of the final if they are not in the final.
- No props allowed, speakers are penalised for having a completely written out or memorised speech, but notes and a timer are encouraged.
- We hire judges who have a lot of oracy and judging experience so the students receive high-quality, actionable feedback.
- The location is South Hampstead High School, 3 Maresfield Gardens, London, NW3 5SS

“Our students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition at your school. And even those who attended as audience members were inspired by what they saw and are excited to get involved next time. Aaliyah and Aaryana in particular were thrilled with their positioning during the heats, it has definitely given them both a confidence boost! Thanks once again, for welcoming us into your school.”
