Autumn Public Speaking Competition

Our public speaking competitions allow students to give a speech on any topic they want to speak on, while giving them practice of compering and questioning other students. The variety of topics on display at these events is always a testament to the eclectic and curious nature of young people.

Our competitions are designed, first and foremost, to be exciting, enjoyable evenings for everyone involved. There is always a wide spectrum of ability and all levels are welcome.

  • Wednesday the 25th of September, from 4.15-8.30pm.
  • Each student gives a 5 minutes speech, answers questions on it and comperes another student.
  • A full briefing video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCqfhObwfQM
  • From speakers, we look for originality of thought, engagement with the audience and to not be simply reading an essay aloud.
  • From comperes, we look for a welcoming manner, organisation, good synthesis of their speaker’s ideas and good questions.
  • We hire judges who have a lot of debate and judging experience so the students receive high-quality, actionable feedback for every debate.
  • The location is South Hampstead High School, 3 Maresfield Gardens, London, NW3 5SS

Our students thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the competition at your school. And even those who attended as audience members were inspired by what they saw and are excited to get involved next time. Aaliyah and Aaryana in particular were thrilled with their positioning during the heats, it has definitely given them both a confidence boost! Thanks once again, for welcoming us into your school.
